One sunny Sunday two weeks ago I joined Kentisbeare Junior Cyclists for a training ride out in the country lanes outside Exeter. The Club is gearing up for a big ride in Scotland this Summer.

They came to meet me from Tiverton Parkway station (which also doubled as a handy snack stop for most of the riders – I’m not sure the One Stop at the station has seen such roaring trade on a Sunday afternoon!).

We enjoyed a lovely route using some of the off road  Route 3 of  the national cycle network and passsed through Willand and past Croyle and wound into the village of Kentisbeare using the quiet country lanes that cover the area. Everyone did a great job of keeping together and riding as a group on the road, and we only had one (fortunately slow) puncture, so we made it back to the village still smiling.

The pub was a welcome stop for us thirsty cyclists, and a chance to catch up with Stuart and the leaders about the exciting plans for their Challenge ride to Scotland this May/June half term. There will be 37 riders taking the challenge, which hopes to be trip of a lifetime, and an experience in a completely new environment of Arran and Argyll.

To help them fundraise and ensure they are geared up and ready for the big ride, the Bike Doctors will be at  Kentisbeare School for a summer health check on  Friday 21 May 4 pm to 6 pm. There will be tea and cakes to enjoy while the doctors work their magic on the Club’s bikes.

If you are at least 9 years old and you are confident about riding a bike you can join in with Kentisbeare’s regular rides. The rides are free. Find out more about joining by contacting Stuart McFadzean.
