I’m sure that Nigel Mansell’s motor racing career has taken him to some exotic places, but his cycling career is set to eclipse even that. The Nigel Mansell Cycle Challenge, underway even as I type, visits Carlton Lodge Outdoor Centre just outside Thirsk on Saturday during a day of adventurous activities designed to test the bravest, and open to all.
There’s the famous high ropes course and zipwire, climbing wall, canoes, kayaks and archery. But the cycling activities are set to be even more outrageous, with the seven person circlecycle just like this one (on its way End to End) taking centre stage, with wacky bikes and fast-cornering KMX pedal carts available to try courtesy of our friends at Get Cycling.
This fun day out is great value: it’s a fiver for under 16s, £10 for over 16s, and family tickets are £20/£25. So join us for a great day, but be sure to bring a change of clothes, especially if you’re going near the water!
That’s Saturday 31st July, 10am-4pm, Carlton Lodge, Carlton Miniott, Thirsk. Y07 4NJ

Sounds ace Patrick! Even though I’m there in a working capacity can I have a go on the high rope course please?
