Hi I’m Melanie. I have been given this remarkable opportunity to set up Bike Cubs in Cardiff and surrounding areas of south Wales. This is a very exciting chance to work with local community groups and schools encouraging children and young people to cycle more.
I have worked with the community for the past 15 years, first as a youth worker, then in post-16 education and most recently with Community Focused Schools. I am keen to find out what children and young people would like to do to enhance the cycling opportunities in their areas through setting up new clubs or improving existing facilities.
Cycling has always been part of my life. As a child and young person, my brother and I were encouraged by our parents to cycle for fun and as a means of safe transport from A to B. Now I have a family of my own and we enjoy cycling together. Currently we only cycle locally and I am looking forward to broadening my knowledge of cycling in Cardiff and gaining confidence in taking my own family on rides outside my direct locality.
