Ealing Cycling Campaign Bike Club Leader David Eales has been very busy running pilot sessions to gear up for their launch and says:
“Ealing Cycling Campaign’s CTC Bike Club continues to grow and grow. The initial sessions of the bicycle workshop have generated the interest planned and now a regular group of residents based on the Windmill Estate turn up every two weeks. Following talks with the local Safer Neighbourhood Team, the police delivered a selection of recovered bicycles for the club to work on and the first batch are already being eagerly worked on. A Club member selects a bike that will fit them and then the bike is assessed as to what is required to make it road worthy. Parts are ordered and then fitted over subsequent sessions by the student under supervision. Students help each other too rather than work in isolation and share tools and advice during the sessions. They are also encouraged to help residents simply dropping by to get a puncture fixed or seeking some other help.”
David says that even more growth of the Bike Club is soon to come:
“The sessions are proving very popular and the club will soon expand to other another estate managed by Catalyst Housing and overtime more formal lessons are planned as well as led rides and events to promote the group and ensure the bikes earned are being used.”
Thanks to the Bike Club Grant, Catalyst Housing, LondonBike Hub (for the supply of parts and advice), Ealing Broadway SNT and the hard work of David, Ealing Cycling Campaign Bike Club looks set to be a roaring success on the housing estates. An official launch date is soon to be advised, so watch this space

There was a great turn out for the London Bike Club Networking Event on 21 September.
Look Mum No Hands! Cafe on Old Street gave free use of the famous cycling cafe venue and their data projector for the event. The excellent coffee and cakes went down well with the 38 who came along to find out more about Bike Club in London and network with others.
We started off with introductory talks about Bike Club, including a selection of case studies, and moved on to small groups discussions with the chance to ask questions and get expert advice from staff on things like:
- Bike Club Grant Applications
- successful Bike Club projects
- on and off road riding and training
- Youth Achievement Awards
- setting up after school clubs clubs
Judging by the amount of talking and laughter going on a very enjoyable morning was had by all, this is backed up by returned feedback which has been over 90% positive for all aspects of the event.

Bike maintenance sessions and mountain bike rides have been run at the club for a few years. A Bike Club grant and status could help develop the bike related activities at the club and benefit more young people in the area.

Bike Club Haddenham took 34 young people and adults to enjoy the Mayor of London Skyride where they were part of the estimated 85,000 cyclists that took to the roads of central London on 5th September to take in some of it’s most well know landmarks.
Members of Bike Club Haddenham started their journey from Haddenham, Buckinghamshire and travelled by train to Marylebone Train Station where they then snaked as a group across London riding through Hyde Park and joining the official Skyride route at Buckingham Palace.
Taking advantage of 15 km of London roads they looped around central London passing famous sites like Big Ben, Tower Bridge and Trafalgar Square.
Francesca Flaxton Cycle Trainer, Haddenham Cycle Training and Bike Club Haddenham Leader said “it was a tiring day, but an amazing experience.”
Bike Club Haddenham hope to discover new Skyride opportunities across the country in different cities and in the mean time they continue to meet on the first Saturday of every month at the Haddenham Youth Centre, Buckinghamshire for a range of fun activities including Mountain Biking, BMX and Bike maintenance.
